Ebony’s death made things difficult for me in my career – Wendy Shay

Ghanaian award-winning female musician has admitted that the death of Ebony, who was once the blistering star of the Ruff-Town record label affected her on her come-up into the music scene.

According to her, many people did not like the fact that she was immediately replacing their favourite star on the record label after her demise which made them develop some kind of hatred towards her.

Wendy Speaking on the award-winning OC Showbiz on Skyy Power 93.5FM on Saturday, September 18, claimed she had a lot of challenges trying to penetrate through the Ghana music scene because people did not feel it was right for Ebony to be replaced so soon.

She said, “I had a lot of challenges coming into the industry because of the death of Ebony, they did not want to listen to me because they felt like their favourite is gone.’

“I expected people who claimed to love Ebony show the same love to me because, if you claim you love someone and the person is no more and someone is brought to replace her, I think you should reciprocate the same love towards her replacement and that will show how much you loved her.”

She asserted that her breaking into the music scene even with all the hate from people has solidified the position that she did not come to replace anybody but her own originality has brought her this far.

Wendy made this revelation during her media tour in the Western Region to promote her new album, Shayning Star which was released this year.

Shayning Star is an album of 10 songs, featuring 10 artists that bring out the best of Wendy Shay in her absolute matured stage. It is available on all digital platforms and currently has over 2 million streams on Boomplay.
