Demanding for disclosure of Black Stars budget prior to Chad, Madagascar games was needless - Kofi Adams

Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, has justified the decision to withhold the budget details for the Black Stars’ upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

His explanation comes amid public calls for transparency regarding the financial allocation for the national team’s Matchday five and six fixtures in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

During his State of the Nation Address, President John Mahama had assured that budgets for national teams would be disclosed.

However, speaking to Asempa FM, Adams stated that revealing the figures before the matches could have created unnecessary distractions.

"People were asking me to disclose the budget for the games, but I kept asking myself what will the budget do for the team ahead of the games?

"Sometimes, some situations create distraction for the team, so we should weigh every situation before making a decision."

Despite the initial secrecy, Adams reassured the public that the budget for both games would eventually be disclosed.

"The budget for the team will be made available. There is nothing to hide from the public, but we must know it is expensive to take care of the national team because most of the players are coming from Europe but apart from that, everything will be made available."

The Black Stars will be looking to secure crucial points in their next round of games against Chad and Mali in their bid to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
