The District Chief Executive (DCE) who was nominated by President Akufo-Addo for the Shama District in the Western Region, Mr Ebenezer Dadzie was rejected after he could not secure a majority of the votes from Assemblymembers on Tuesday, October 5.
Out of 25 voters, which included Assemblymembers and government appointees, twelve (12) voted (YES) for the appointment of Mr Dadzie as DCE, whiles eleven (11) voted (NO), with two (2) votes being rejected.
Mr Joseph Isaiah Mensah, Assemblymember for the Etifi Electoral Area in the Shama District, speaking on Skyy Power 93.5FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show monitored by BogaalihashimNews on Wednesday, October 6, made it known, the disunity between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in the district led to the disappointment on Tuesday.
He made it known some of the Assemblymembers in the district worked against the DCE nominee due to their favouritism and loyalty to the former DCE who is also not in support of the appointment of Mr Dadzie.
He boldly stated and made mention of some Assemblymembers (names withheld) who had a meeting to deter other Assembly Members from approving the DCE nominated by the president.
Also, he alleged that GHS2,500 was paid to each of the Assemblymembers by the DCE nominee to encourage them to vote (YES) but they did not do as promised even after taking the money.
He said, “They took the money, I’m telling you, they took GHS2,500 each yet still they voted against the DCE nominee including some NPP Assemblymembers who voted against Mr Dadzie.”
However, he made it clear that he did not take some of the money because that is not what he stands for including the other four (4) government appointees who joined later on to vote.
“None of the four (4) government appointees who came later took any of the money including me,” he alleged
