Mr Abdul Mumin Issah, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Sekondi-Takoradi Assembly (STMA) says preparations are underway to begin the expansion of the Sekondi to Takoradi road into the proposed dual carriage.
Mr Issah in an interview with Skyy Power 93.5FM monitored by BogaalihashimNews said that the design of the dualization is complete and the consultant would engage the public soon mentioning that a possible road diversion through New Takoradi along the railway line that merged at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital was also being considered.
Heavy road traffic and motor accidents, he said were problematic in the Metropolis due to the limited number of roads and poor driving in the Metropolis.
The MCE, therefore, called on the public to desist from encroaching the “corridors of the road” because they would not be entitled to any compensation should their structures be demolished for the construction of the road.
“Unless you are a legitimate landowner…you will not be paid anything should demolition for construction begin”.
Also, over 1,000 trees in the Metropolis along the roads will be cut down due to the expansion project, and three times of that number will be replanted after the project.
“Contractors have identified about 1,000 trees that will need to be cut down to make way for the project, after the project, we will plant times three of the trees cut down to fill in the gap.”
He also wanted residents to be aware of the demounting of street lights from the Esikado Junction through to the Paa Grant Roundabout, also, security will also be intensified during that period as it will be advisable to help reduce crime due to the absence of the lights.
“Very soon, we will be installing diversion signs in the Metropolis to make drivers and commuters aware and familiarise themselves with the new routes,” he added.
