The Essikado Government Hospital has come under attack as it has suffered multiple armed attacks in recent times. Thieves and armed robbers have been terrorising the facility for some time now.
This, according to some staff of the hospital, has made life at the hospital unbearable for patients in the hospital.
According to reports, the security man on duty at the facility on Sunday, 7th November 2020 foiled a robbery attack with the help of the husband of a patient. The attacker was armed with a knife, but the security man, who was unarmed, devised a strategy with the husband of a patient and was able to scare the robbery away.
Reacting to this story on the Jolly Breakfast Show on Skyy Power FM, a retired staff of the hospital, Mama Angie corroborated the story.
”On Sunday, there were reports that the hospital was attacked. They said the security man was doing his normal rounds and found out that someone is hiding behind the maternity ward. He called the person available and they went to check the place. He took the front road and the person took the other side. They found the person and he started running from them.
“The security man was not armed but the thief had a knife with him, which he tried to use to attack the security man. The security man had only a brush – that was what he used to hit the thief to scare him off. He run into the bush,” she said.
Mama Angie further stated that these robbery incidents have been going on since she was still in active service in the hospital. She revealed further that they mostly come there to take money from patients and people who are available at the hospital.
“Sometimes I get even scared for patients that are sleeping there because they can harm them anytime without they noticing anything. It got to a point where one of the nurses had to fight with a thief. These activities have led to the dismissal of one of our security men but the fault is not coming from them. They don’t have weapons to defend themselves when they come under attack. It’s really disheartening that the lives of people in the hospital are always in danger,” she narrated.
Mama Angie, therefore, urged the authorities to do something about the security issues at the hospital.
